Avant-Plastic

This is a piece I made for my 3-d art class in high school which consisted of about 120 water bottles. For the majority of the dress I used the midsection of water bottles to cut out several slightly bent but rectangular shapes. Then, I hole punched each corner of the rectangles and strung them together with transparent fishing wire. I used the top of the water bottles to create the top of my piece and used the bottom of the water bottles as the trim.

Here are some mind-boggling statistics on water bottles:

- 2 million plastic water bottles are consumed by Americans every hour.
- It takes 1000 years for a plastic bottle to start decomposing.
- 1 ton of plastic bottles take up 7.4 cubic yards of landfill space
- 17 million of barrels of crude oil are needed to supply a year’s worth of water bottles.
-1millon cars can run with 17 million barrels of crude oil for 12 months
-1 plastic bottle can power a 60-watt light bulb for 6
